Draft Strategy Presented to Board of Health today

Did you know that more than 1 in 5 Thurston County adults lack adequate social support?  Whether we have or don't have someone in our lives we can turn to for support affects both our physical and mental health.

Danny Kadden of Interfaith Works and Paul Knox of United Way of Thurston County presented the Community Resilience Action Strategy to the Board of Health and Thurston Thrives Advisory Council today. The two leaders shared the role of team lead, and brought together many people and organizations, through a summit and team meetings, to develop strategies aimed at ensuring Thurston County residents are connected, included and supported, increasing civic engagement, and encouraging the diverse actions that keep our community together and improve our health.

The strategy – calling for better linking and exchange among groups, neighborhoods and networks, increased support for those with special needs, improved volunteer systems, and increased participation in civic life and local decision-making, among many other actions - depends on everyone, from individuals to organizations, as well as the many partners whose work brings people together and reaches out to those who might otherwise by isolated.
